SAG reinforces agricultural product declarations at Chacalluta border

The Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG) is increasing awareness campaigns at the Chacalluta Border Complex to prevent the illegal entry of high-risk agricultural products. This measure comes in anticipation of an expected increase in travelers moving toward Peru during the upcoming holiday period.

Authorities are urging travelers returning to Chile to avoid transporting fruits, vegetables, seeds, plants, flowers, meat products, dairy, and other animal or plant-based items that may pose a risk to the nation's phytosanitary and zoosanitary heritage. Officials emphasize that travelers must declare any such products digitally under oath upon entry, allowing specialized teams to determine if the items are permitted or must be seized.

With between 7,000 and 9,000 people entering the country daily through Chacalluta, Agriculture Seremi Christopher Pizarro Schmauck and SAG Regional Director Álvaro Alegría Matus highlighted that prevention is vital to avoid the introduction of pests and diseases that could impact Chile's agriculture and livestock sectors.
