Saga City removes inaccurate air raid photo from Peace Exhibition

Saga City has removed a photograph from its 35th annual Peace Exhibition after it was discovered that the image, presented as a depiction of the Saga Air Raid, actually showed a different location.

The exhibition, held at the municipal library from August 14 to 18, featured over 100 items, including panels produced by a local civic group to educate the public on the horrors of war. The error was identified after media outlets pointed out that the photograph, which was sourced from X (formerly Twitter), contained visual inconsistencies—such as clearly visible smoke during nighttime conditions—suggesting it was not from the 1945 bombing of Saga.

The civic group responsible for the panels admitted to using the image because a verified photo of the Saga Air Raid was unavailable, noting they did not confirm the source. Saga City officials and the contracted company acknowledged insufficient verification of the materials and stated they would implement stricter checks on sources and content for future exhibitions.
