Saga Police conduct disaster rescue training at former city hall

Police in Saga Prefecture conducted joint rescue training at the former Kanzaki City Hall to prepare for large-scale disasters such as house collapses caused by earthquakes, fires, or heavy rain. The training utilized a building scheduled for demolition in October to simulate a realistic disaster environment.

Members of the Saga Prefectural Police Mobility Unit, who gained practical experience during the Kumamoto Earthquake, instructed officers from the Kanzaki Police Station on rescue techniques and tool handling. The drills included using drills to inspect interiors via small holes, using chainsaws and engine cutters to breach walls, and using hammers to break through reinforced structures.

Participants also practiced using stretchers to transport victims safely and conducted video streaming exercises to monitor the scene from a distance. Kanzaki Police Station Chief Chikako Kinoshita emphasized the importance of daily preparation as natural disasters become more severe.
