Saga University selected for MEXT diversity research initiative

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) has selected Saga University as a new participant for the 2026 “Diversity Research Environment Realization Initiative.” Saga University was chosen under the “Female Leader Development” category, which aims to promote the appointment of female researchers to senior positions such as professor and associate professor.

The initiative seeks to enhance diversity within research environments to foster superior scientific achievements. Support includes improving work-life balance to accommodate life events like childbirth and childcare, assisting researchers returning from career breaks, and promoting active recruitment and skill development for women.

Saga University was selected from 12 applicants following a review by a committee organized by PwC Consulting. The university will receive subsidies for five years of a six-year project period. Annual funding is expected to range between 35 million and 52.5 million yen, with the first year capped at approximately 48 million yen.
