Sagal Abdi-Wali launches Labour campaign for London by-election
Labour candidate Sagal Abdi-Wali has officially launched her campaign for the upcoming Holborn and St Pancras by-election in London. The election, scheduled for October 8, follows the departure of Sir Keir from front-line politics to focus on international affairs.
Abdi-Wali, the current leader of Camden Council, is running against Green Party leader Zack Polanski. Her platform focuses on housing, homelessness, and support for families. She has highlighted her local government record, including investments in council homes and the implementation of free breakfast schemes in schools.
If successful, Abdi-Wali would become the first British-Somali woman to serve as a Member of Parliament in the United Kingdom. She cited her personal history as a child refugee from Somalia as a motivation to provide security and opportunity to families within the constituency.
