A mass poisoning incident involving spurious liquor in the Banda area of Sagar, Madhya Pradesh, has resulted in at least 15 confirmed deaths, though local reports suggest the toll may be as high as 28. Dozens of people are receiving medical treatment at Bundelkhand Medical College, with some patients in critical condition requiring ventilators or dialysis. Some victims have reportedly suffered loss of eyesight.

In response to the tragedy, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav directed strict action against those responsible. The district administration has carried out demolitions using bulldozers against five illegal structures belonging to three primary suspects: Manish Lodhi, Chandrabhan Singh Rajput, and Ashish Sahu. These buildings, located on government land, were allegedly used to facilitate the illegal liquor trade.

Police have identified 30 suspects in connection with the incident and have arrested 16 individuals so far. Authorities have also announced rewards for the capture of remaining suspects, including a 20,000 rupee reward for Manish Lodhi. Investigations are ongoing to dismantle the wider distribution network used to supply the toxic alcohol.
