Sagar-Runi murder case: Family seeks International Crimes Tribunal investigation

The family of journalists Sagar Sarwar and Meherun Runi has submitted an application to the Chief Prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal seeking a formal investigation and trial for their 2012 murders. Naushad Alam, the brother of Meherun Runi, filed the application, noting that despite 14 years passing, government and investigative agencies have failed to solve the case.

While a high-powered task force led by the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) is currently investigating following a High Court order, the family expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of progress over the last two years. They are requesting that the Tribunal's investigative wing conduct a proper inquiry to identify and punish the perpetrators. Chief Prosecutor Md. Aminul Islam stated that the office would review the application to determine if the matter falls under the jurisdiction of the Tribunal's investigative agency or if it qualifies as a widespread or systematic crime.
