Sagarika Ghosh seeks Rajya Sabha suspension over alleged police pellet‑gun use on NEET protestors

TMC Rajya Sabha MP Sagarika Ghosh submitted a notice under Rule 267 demanding that the upper house suspend its business on Monday, 27 July 2026, to discuss alleged excessive force used by Delhi police and the Rapid Action Force during NEET exam protests. The notice claims that security forces deployed pellet‑gun rounds, injuring a student's eyesight, and used other lethal or semi‑lethal weapons despite the protests being peaceful. Ghosh described the incident as a matter of serious national importance and asked that sessions be halted from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and again at 2:00 p.m. for immediate debate.

The protests stem from accusations of paper‑leak irregularities in the NEET exam, with students demanding the resignation of Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. In parallel, the government plans to introduce the Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill 2026 in the Lok Sabha, presented by Minister Jitendra Singh, which proposes stricter penalties for paper‑leak offences.
