Sagarmala Finance Corp. Ltd targets ₹602 billion in disbursals by 2031

Sagarmala Finance Corp. Ltd (SMFCL), India’s first dedicated maritime-sector non-banking financial company (NBFC), has set a target to reach cumulative disbursements of ₹60,205 crore (approximately ₹602 billion) by the end of fiscal year 2031. The announcement was made by Union Minister for Ports, Shipping & Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal during the inauguration of SMFCL’s corporate office in New Delhi.

As of September 30, 2026, SMFCL has sanctioned ₹115.63 billion in financing and disbursed ₹51.07 billion. More than half of the sanctioned amount is expected to be drawn as maritime projects progress. The corporation aims to support port-led development, shipbuilding, coastal infrastructure, and logistics to align with India’s long-term maritime vision.

Parallel to SMFCL’s growth, the government is developing the ₹250 billion Maritime Development Fund (MDF). This initiative includes the Maritime Investment Fund (MIF), with SBI Ventures Ltd appointed as fund manager, and the Interest Incentivisation Fund (IIF). The MIF is expected to complete its registration as an alternative investment fund with SEBI by late November, targeting an initial close of ₹50 billion by January 2027. The IIF is already operational, having supported loans totaling ₹4,500 crore.
