Sagrada Familia centenary celebrates Gaudí’s legacy and new initiatives

On Thursday, a round‑table at the Gaudí Centre in Reus presented recent research on the Catalan architect’s early influences, including the helicoidal chimney of the Molí de la Vila and the proportional relationship between the Prioral of Sant Pere and the central nave of the Sagrada Família. Historians and journalists, joined by Gaudí’s great‑grandniece Maite Gaudí, discussed his personal life, his ties to Catalan nationalism and projects such as the unbuilt theatre for Reus.

In Barcelona, the basilica’s rector Josep Maria Turull described visitor reactions and highlighted the completion of the Tower of Jesucrist in 2026, marking the 100th anniversary of Gaudí’s death. The Sagrada Família continues its social outreach through a fund that supports vulnerable families, and the Catholic Church’s beatification process for Gaudí, begun in 1992, remains underway.
