Saguenay Mayor Luc Boivin Announces Ice‑Fishing Cabin Fee Rise and Youth Council

On August 4 2026 the Saguenay City Council met at the Chicoutimi town hall. Mayor Luc Boivin announced that the cost of white ice‑fishing cabin sites will rise by 5 percent, arguing that, although the activity does not generate profit, it is a key tourist attraction that drives economic activity for local businesses. He said, “Le coût de la mise en place des infrastructures… c’est un moteur économique qui est très important.”

Councilor Serge Gaudreault read a petition about a severely dilapidated house on Rue de Boulogne that is allegedly attracting rodents. Boivin agreed the concerns were valid and said the city is preparing a response, including possible regulatory changes, to address the problem.

The next day municipal officials unveiled a detailed structural framework for a new Youth Council. The plan outlines the governance architecture, implementation timeline and operational scope intended to channel youth feedback into municipal policy through secure digital platforms.
