Sagunt a Escena festival expands seating for 43rd edition in Valencia

The Sagunt a Escena festival opened on 1 August 2026 with its 43rd edition, staging the play El Narciso at the Roman Theatre of Sagunto. The production, created by the Institut Valencià de Cultura, was adapted by Chema Cardeña and directed by Rebeca Valls, featuring actors such as Josep Manuel Casany, Aina Gimeno and Toni Misó. The opening ceremony was attended by regional Culture Secretary Marta Alonso and General Director of Culture Ignacio Prieto.

For this edition the organisers increased the venue capacity to 804 seats, up from 608 in the previous two years, after completing safety‑related upgrades. Improvements included new stairs, upgraded restrooms, safety nets, repaired railings and water‑leak fixes, allowing the festival to meet the maximum audience size permitted by current regulations, though it remains below the 1 200 seats available in 2023.
