Sahibzada Farhan appointed Pakistan cricket captain for Asian Games

Sahibzada Farhan Pakistan cricket Asian Games T20 captaincy PCB

Sahibzada Farhan has been appointed captain of Pakistan’s cricket squad for the upcoming Asian Games in Japan. Farhan, who recently finished as the leading run-scorer of the 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup with 383 runs, will lead a squad composed of a mix of young talent and experienced players.

Farhan stated that the team is focused on winning every match to secure the gold medal, rather than focusing solely on specific opponents like India. He noted that while conditions in Japan differ from Pakistan, the team has prepared accordingly. Head coach Mike Hesson described the appointment as a good opportunity for Farhan to gain leadership experience, though a long-term decision on the captaincy remains to be decided by the selection committee.

Speculation suggests Farhan may also lead the T20 side in the upcoming home series against Sri Lanka in Rawalpindi. Reports indicate that the Pakistan Cricket Board is looking to build a broader player pool for the 2028 T20 World Cup, which may involve giving more opportunities to younger players during the Sri Lanka series. Senior players Fakhar Zaman, Shaheen Afridi, and Haris Rauf are not expected to participate in that series.
