Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic joins African Peer Review Mechanism

Brahim Ghali, President of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) and Secretary-General of the Polisario Front, has formally accepted an invitation to join the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM). In a letter to Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, who chairs the APRM Forum, Ghali expressed the SADR’s commitment to good governance, transparency, and political stability through the continental framework.

Separately, the SADR government has issued a rebuttal to statements made by the Moroccan Foreign Minister at the 81st UN General Assembly. The Sahrawi authorities accused Morocco of spreading “lies and untruths” regarding the international status of Western Sahara. They specifically contested Morocco’s interpretation of UN Security Council Resolution 2797, asserting that the resolution does not recognize Moroccan sovereignty over the territory and maintains the necessity of a settlement based on the right to self-determination.
