Sahrawi children hosted by Spain's Vacaciones en Paz summer program

The municipality of Mos in Galicia welcomed 11 Sahrawi refugee children who will spend the summer with host families as part of the Vacaciones en Paz programme. The initiative, run by the Association Solidariedade Galega co Pobo Saharauí and the local council, aims to host a total of 280 minors from the Tinduf camps, providing medical check‑ups, balanced meals, and cultural and recreational activities.

In Plasencia, Extremadura, a family opened their home to another Sahrawi child under the same programme, describing the challenges of adapting to a new language and environment but emphasizing the benefits of escaping extreme desert heat that can exceed 50 °C. The family noted that the experience offers the child medical care and a normal summer, while also teaching their own children about solidarity, respect, and cultural exchange.
