Sahrawi children receive summer support and honors in Spain

In Asturias, the 47th edition of the Amuravela de Oro ceremony honored local cultural and humanitarian contributions, with historian Yayoi Kawamura, the Asturian Association of Solidarity with the Sahrawi People and the Cofradía de Jesús Nazareno recognized. The event, attended by more than 200 people in Soto del Barco, highlighted the presence of Sahrawi children who spend a summer holiday in Spain thanks to the "Vacaciones en Paz" programme.

In Salamanca, fifteen Sahrawi minors spent July and August under the "Vacaciones en Paz" programme organised by the Association of Friends of the Sahrawi People (Ampusasa). Hosted by local families, the children received accommodation, medical checks, balanced nutrition and a chance to experience a normal childhood, contrasting with the extreme conditions of the Tinduf refugee camps in Algeria where temperatures exceed 50 °C. University professor Anabel Sánchez, a host mother, noted the mutual benefit of the programme for both the children and the host families.
