Sahrawi children welcomed in Spain under 'Vacaciones en Paz' program

Spanish municipalities hosted groups of Sahrawi children from refugee camps as part of the annual "Vacaciones en Paz" programme. In Elche, Mayor Pablo Ruz received 23 children and adolescents, praising the city's long‑standing solidarity. The Diputación d'Alacant also held a reception, with president Antonio Pérez highlighting the values of solidarity and the Front Polisario delegate drawing attention to human‑rights concerns in Western Sahara.

Six children spent two weeks in Pontevedra, reporting a positive experience and integration with local families. In Valencia de Don Juan, 34 children from León and El Bierzo attended a summer gathering that offers medical checks, balanced meals and a break from the harsh conditions of the Tindouf camps. The programme relies on host families across the region and aims to provide physical well‑being and personal development for the minors.

The initiative, running for more than three decades, continues to attract local authorities, volunteers and donors to support the Sahrawi community during the hottest months of the year.
