SAIC automotive plant in Ferrol awaits Spanish government authorization

Alfonso Rueda, president of the Xunta de Galicia, expressed hope that the Spanish central government will authorize the establishment of a SAIC automotive plant in Ferrol before the end of the year. The project involves the Chinese automotive giant establishing an assembly plant for the MG brand at the outer port of Ferrol.

The investment is estimated at nearly 200 million euros, with a completion timeline extending to 2031. This would mark SAIC's first facility on European soil. The project is expected to impact several areas, including As Pontes, and may potentially include the production of Maxus vans.

Rueda noted that while the regional government is collaborating closely with the central government to facilitate the process, the final authorization must be granted by the Council of Ministers. He emphasized that the company is working to provide all necessary documentation and environmental impact studies to meet the complex regulatory requirements.
