SAIC eyes new MG sedan for Spain while Ferrol mayor assesses possible plant investment

Chinese automotive group SAIC, the owner of the MG brand, is preparing to launch the MG5 Pro – a compact sedan styled after the Toyota Corolla – in the Spanish market. The model, offered globally under names such as MG5, MG GT or MG6 Pro, is expected to be priced around €25,000, positioning it as an affordable hybrid option for Spanish buyers.

In Ferrol, the mayor José Manuel Rey Varela (PP) declined to confirm whether SAIC will establish a vehicle‑manufacturing plant at the city’s outer port, but he emphasized that Ferrol is ready to welcome investment that creates jobs. No concrete project details were disclosed.

The two developments highlight SAIC’s expanding presence in Europe and the interest of Spanish municipalities in attracting foreign automotive investment.
