SAIC-GM expands Xiao Yao architecture to include internal combustion engines
SAIC-GM has announced that its Xiao Yao architecture, originally developed for electrified vehicles, will now support internal combustion engines. The 2027 Buick LaCrosse will be the first model to utilize this expanded platform capability.
While the architecture was initially designed for New Energy Vehicles—including battery electric (BEV), plug-in hybrid (PHEV), and extended-range electric (EREV) models—it can now accommodate up to four different powertrain concepts. This expansion provides SAIC-GM with greater flexibility for its Buick and Cadillac product lineups in the Chinese market.
The 2027 Buick LaCrosse features a redesigned interior with over 50 premium upgrades, including a massive floating center infotainment screen powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 architecture. The vehicle also includes technical enhancements such as a rear multi-link independent suspension and a chassis tuned with over 200 programs specifically for Chinese road conditions.
