SAIC launches monthly MG vehicle shipments at Ferrol port in Spain

On July 9, the Chinese automaker SAIC’s subsidiary arrived with the first roll‑on/roll‑off vessel “Angie Forever” at the exterior port of Ferrol, Galicia, delivering more than 700 MG‑branded cars after a month‑long voyage from China. The docking was uneventful, assisted by two tugs, and about 45 port workers began unloading the vehicles via the ship’s ramp onto a 19,500‑square‑metre temporary logistics yard.

SAIC plans to use Ferrol as a regular logistics hub, aiming for one similar vessel to call each month. The cars will be stored temporarily before being distributed by truck to dealers across Spain. The ship, built for 2025, runs on low‑emission methanol fuel. SAIC has applied for the necessary operating permit and views the operation as the “starting pistol” for a future MG manufacturing plant that is slated for Ferrol, a project promoted as strategic for Galicia’s industrial revitalisation.

The arrival attracted local interest, and Galician president Alfonso Rueda scheduled an institutional ceremony on Thursday, attending with SAIC representatives and other political officials to mark the milestone.
