SAIC Motor expands European and Brazilian electric vehicle operations

SAIC Motor is advancing its electric vehicle strategy through new production plans in Europe and premium brand launches in South America.

In Europe, MG is reportedly developing a production facility in Ferrol, Spain, to manufacture the MG Go, a small electric vehicle. Production is slated to begin in 2028 with an initial capacity of 70,000 units, potentially scaling to 120,000. The facility will initially assemble kits imported from China to help the company bypass EU import tariffs on Chinese-made electric vehicles. The MG Go is expected to feature a 111-kW motor and a 43-kWh LFP battery.

In Brazil, SAIC is introducing IM Motors, a premium brand that will operate alongside MG. The brand’s debut model is the IM6, a high-performance electric SUV capable of producing up to 752 cv. The IM6 features battery options of 75 kWh and 100 kWh, with a top speed of 305 km/h and a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 3.5 seconds. The brand will utilize existing MG dealership structures but with dedicated areas for its premium models.
