SAIC Motor Malaysia launches entry-level MGS5 EV COM

SAIC Motor Malaysia has expanded its locally assembled (CKD) MGS5 EV lineup with the introduction of the entry-level COM (Comfort) variant. Produced at the EPMB plant in Melaka, the new model is designed to increase accessibility to electric B-segment SUVs.

The MGS5 EV COM is priced at RM103,900, which is RM16,000 less than the higher-end LUX variant. For a limited time, a launch rebate may reduce the price to RM100,900, including a free AC wallbox charger. The COM variant features a 49kWh battery providing a driving range of up to 340km, producing 170PS and 250Nm of torque.

Key differences between the COM and LUX variants include smaller 17-inch black alloy wheels, fabric seats instead of ventilated leatherette, and a 120kW DC fast charging capacity compared to the LUX's 150kW. Despite the lower price point, both models share safety features such as seven airbags and the MG Pilot ADAS 2.5 system. The vehicle comes with a 7-year/150,000km warranty, with extended coverage for the high-voltage battery and Motor Control Unit.
