SAIC Motor to produce MG2 electric car in new Spanish plant

SAIC Motor plans to launch the MG2, a new electric B-segment city car, with production slated for its upcoming facility in Ferrol, Galicia. The project represents the Chinese automotive giant's first factory in Europe.

Initial production is expected to begin in 2028 using the CKD (completely knocked down) method, where components are imported from China for assembly in Spain. This strategy aims to mitigate high EU tariffs on Chinese-made electric vehicles. The facility is projected to have a medium-term capacity of up to 120,000 vehicles annually.

The investment for the first phase is estimated between 196.94 million and 200 million euros. The project is expected to create approximately 2,300 jobs, including roles in production, logistics, and a logistics center in As Pontes. While construction is planned for 2027, the project currently awaits final authorization from the Spanish Council of Ministers.
