SAIC's MG car plant to be built in Ferrol, Spain, creating up to 2,000 jobs

SAIC Motor, the Chinese group that owns the MG brand, announced that it will construct a new automobile factory in the outer port of Ferrol, Galicia. President Wang Xiaoqiu said construction will begin in 2027 and production is expected by late 2028, with a capacity of up to 120,000 electric and hybrid vehicles per year aimed at the European market and designed to avoid EU import tariffs.

The Xunta de Galicia has classified the venture as an Industrial Strategic Project. An investment of roughly €196.4 million will fund more than 100,500 m² of facilities, including stamping, body‑shop, paint‑shop, assembly lines, logistics and a test circuit. The plant is projected to create about 1,000 direct jobs – 540 in production and 460 in logistics – and another 1,000 indirect positions throughout the regional automotive supply chain.

Land arrangements involve Amper, which will cede 70,000 m² of the Ferrol port site for the SAIC plant and receive compensation from the regional government. In exchange, Amper will relocate its offshore‑wind project to A Coruña, securing 110,000 m² there for its own developments.
