SAIC's New Ferrol Plant Boosts Galicia's EV and Industrial Ecosystem

Chinese automaker SAIC Motor is preparing to invest more than €1 billion in a new electric‑vehicle factory in Ferrol, Galicia. The plant is expected to produce about 120,000 cars a year, create roughly 2,500 direct jobs and anchor a broader supply‑chain ecosystem that includes battery makers, advanced logistics, renewable‑energy projects and marine‑wind development. Local ports in A Coruña and Ferrol are already coordinating infrastructure upgrades to support the anticipated tractor effect of the investment.

At the same time, MG, another SAIC brand, has risen to become one of the seven highest‑selling car makes in Galicia, averaging five sales per day (around 150 registrations a month). Its success, driven by competitively priced electric SUVs such as the MG ZS and MG 4, underscores the growing market for Chinese EVs in the region and complements the larger industrial strategy surrounding the Ferrol plant.
