Saif Ali Khan: From early career setbacks to Bollywood stardom

Actor Saif Ali Khan faced significant early career challenges, including being removed from his intended debut film, ‘Bekhudi’, in 1992. Director Rahul Rawail reportedly dismissed him for unprofessionalism, though conflicting accounts suggest the removal was linked to a demand that Khan leave his partner, Amrita Singh.

Beyond industry setbacks, Khan dealt with criticisms regarding his English accent, physical appearance, and perceived lack of suitability for traditional action roles. As the son of Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi and Sharmila Tagore, he also faced the pressure of his family legacy.

His career trajectory shifted significantly following his 1993 debut in films like ‘Parampara’ and ‘Aashiq Aawara’, eventually leading to stardom in urban romantic comedies after his role in the 2001 film ‘Dil Chahta Hai’. His mother, Sharmila Tagore, is credited with influencing his transition toward more complex and deep character roles.
