Saif Ali Khan stabbing case: Accused seeks to plead guilty

Mohammad Shariful Islam, a Bangladeshi national, has approached a Mumbai court seeking to plead guilty in the stabbing case involving Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan. Islam is currently in judicial custody following his arrest after the January 16, 2025, incident at Khan’s Bandra residence.

The accused faces charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for robbery involving a deadly weapon, causing grievous hurt, and house trespass, as well as violations of the Foreigners Act and Passport (Entry into India) Rules. His legal counsel has requested leniency from the court.

The court has requested a response from the prosecution and adjourned the hearing until September 11. During the attack, Khan sustained six injuries, including deep wounds to his neck and hand, and required emergency surgery at Lilavati Hospital after a knife was found lodged near his spine.
