Saigon Co. op launches fresh food traceability system

Saigon Co. op, in collaboration with the National Barcode Center, has officially launched a traceability system for fresh food products. The initiative focuses on high-risk items, including vegetables, fruits, and seafood, to ensure quality control from production and harvesting through to distribution.

A pilot phase is currently underway involving five representative products from various suppliers: green-skinned pomelo from Tan My Fruit Cooperative, cantaloupe from Phuc Loi Service Trading Cooperative, spinach from Xuan Thai Thinh Co., Ltd., jade tomatoes from Dalat Hasfarm, and snakehead fish from Pham Nghia Food Joint Stock Company. This pilot allows the company to evaluate the system across multiple stages, including processing, packaging, transportation, and warehousing.

The system utilizes a closed database management process to track goods from suppliers to Saigon Co. op’s distribution centers and finally to supermarkets. By standardizing data regarding batches, cultivation areas, and movement, the company aims to transition from fragmented information management to a synchronized, controllable supply chain. Consumers can access origin information by scanning QR codes on the products.
