Turkey's local authorities roll out agricultural support programmes
In Elazığ, Governor Numan Hatipoğlu inspected the Besi Organized Agro‑Industrial Zone, highlighting plans for a 10,000‑head cattle capacity, on‑site feed, biogas and fertilizer plants, and more than 1,000 jobs. The Mersin Metropolitan Municipality launched a pest‑control project that will distribute 80,000 feromone traps to 2,700 small‑scale fruit growers to curb the Mediterranean fruit fly, aiming to reduce crop losses and chemical pesticide use. The Samsun Çarşamba district reported a rise in brown fruit‑fly infestations and cokleme disease in hazelnut orchards, urging farmers to apply Ministry‑approved plant‑protection products. Bursa’s agricultural department continued field work on the B‑Prescription system to improve monitoring of plant‑protection chemicals. In Palu (Elazığ), 40 plough machines and one grape‑press were handed to farmers with a 70 % subsidy to modernise equipment and boost productivity. Antalya’s municipality assessed flood damage to greenhouses in Bozhüyük, providing affected growers with feed, straw and other supplies. In Adana’s Saimbeyli district, barren land was reclaimed for wheat cultivation, yielding about 100 tonnes of grain and enabling the municipality to bake and sell loaves at 12.5 TL each, saving roughly 15 million TL for the local budget.
