Sainsbury's and Argos recall Tu tote bags over chemical risk

Sainsbury’s and Argos have issued an urgent recall for three Tu brand tote bags due to excessive concentrations of phthalates. These chemical compounds, used to soften plastics, pose a serious chemical safety risk.

The Office for Product Safety & Standards warned that phthalates may harm human health, particularly children, by potentially causing damage to the reproductive system. The products do not meet the requirements of the REACH Enforcement Regulations 2008.

The affected items are: • Tu Pu Tan Curved Top Shopper (item 147160412) • Tu Black Croc Winged Tote Bag (item 147166081) • Tu Brown Belt Handled Core Shopper (item 147789704)

Customers are advised to stop using the bags immediately and return them to any Sainsbury’s or Argos store for a full refund.
