Sainsbury’s rolls out RFID technology for Tu clothing in 400 stores
Sainsbury’s is implementing radio frequency identification (RFID) technology across the Tu clothing departments in approximately 400 stores. The rollout is expected to be completed by early September.
Following a pilot program conducted earlier this year, the retailer aims to use the technology to enhance stock level visibility, accelerate replenishment processes, and improve overall stock management efficiency. Gillian Ekin, Head of Transformation and Operational Development at Sainsbury’s, noted the significant collaborative effort required to deploy the project across the store network.
Industry perspectives on the technology suggest a shift in how RFID is utilized. Dan McGrath of JD Group Customer Operations stated that the value of RFID lies beyond mere stock accuracy, describing it as a ‘confidence engine’ for automated commerce that allows for more reliable decision-making regarding sales and demand routing.
