Orthodox calendar commemorations for July 18‑19

The Orthodox liturgical calendar marks several saints on 18 July and 19 July 2026.  On 19 July the Church commemorates St Macrina, sister of St Basil the Great and St Gregory of Nyssa, noted for her ascetic life, charitable works and influence on her brothers.  The same day also honours St Dios, a 5th‑century Syrian monk celebrated for his theological learning and piety, and the 630 Fathers of the Council of Chalcedon whose teachings defined Christ’s dual nature.  Divine services for the day are broadcast live in Greece and via diaspora channels.

On 18 July the calendar remembers St Emilian of Doroștol, a 4th‑century martyr who destroyed pagan idols and was burned for his faith, and St Pamvo, a 4th‑century ascetic monk revered for his strict fasting and prayer.  Both saints are highlighted in Orthodox publications across Greece, Bulgaria, Romania and elsewhere, often alongside lists of popular given names (e.g., Γαρυφαλλιά, Διός, Μακρίνα, Emil, Εμιλία) that share the day’s name‑day celebrations.
