Saint Anastasia the Roman Martyr commemorated

Saint Anastasia the Roman is honored for her martyrdom during the persecutions under Emperors Decius and Valerian. An orphan from the age of three, she was raised in a monastery near Rome by the abbess Sofia.

According to religious tradition, Anastasia refused marriage proposals to dedicate her life to Christ. This led to her arrest by the official Prov, who subjected her to various tortures, including being beaten and suffocated with pitch. Despite the cruelty, she maintained her faith, which reportedly led many onlookers to convert. She was eventually executed by decapitation.

Relics of the saint are currently held at the Grigoriu Monastery on Mount Athos and at the Șinca Nouă Monastery in Brașov.
