Saint Andrew Stratelates feast day celebrated by Orthodox believers

The Serbian Orthodox Church and its believers celebrate the feast day of Saint Andrew Stratelates, a 3rd-century Christian martyr and Roman military officer. According to tradition, Andrew served under Emperor Maximian and led troops to victory against the Persians after encouraging his soldiers to embrace Christianity.

Following his military success, Andrew was accused of being a Christian and faced trial. He and his soldiers were eventually cornered in the Taurus Mountains in Cilicia, where they were executed by imperial forces. Tradition holds that a healing spring emerged from the site where their blood was spilled.

In religious practice, Saint Andrew Stratelates is honored as a protector of soldiers and a symbol of courage. Devotees are encouraged to visit churches and offer prayers for the health and safety of their families, particularly children, seeking spiritual strength and protection from illness.
