Saint Antonina of Tismana canonized by Romanian Orthodox Church

The Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church has canonized Saint Antonina of Tismana, with her feast day set for December 23. Born Ilinca in 1923, she entered the Tismana Monastery in 1950 and passed away in 2011 at the age of 88.

To mark the occasion, a national symposium titled ‘From Asceticism to Holiness: Saint Antonina of Tismana and the Spiritual Tradition of Tismana’ is being held at the Tismana Monastery. The event includes theological and academic discussions regarding her life and the monastery's spiritual heritage. Archbishop Irineu of Craiova and Metropolitan of Oltenia attended the proceedings, emphasizing the importance of the saint's example for contemporary Christian life and the communal nature of salvation within the Church.

A local proclamation of the canonization is scheduled to take place at the Tismana Monastery from October 2 to October 4.
