Saint Avvakoum trial: Witness credibility challenged in Nicosia court
During a court hearing at the Nicosia Assize Court regarding the Holy Monastery of Saint Avvakoum case, defense lawyer Eustathios Eustathiou cross-examined a prosecution witness, referred to as Father B.
Eustathiou challenged the witness's credibility, alleging that Father B. provided “many lies” to the court in an attempt to conceal information. The confrontation intensified when the defense lawyer raised a sexual harassment case currently facing Father B. in District Court, suggesting the witness attempted to hide this matter to protect his reputation.
Father B. responded by stating that the sexual harassment matter is an allegation he faces rather than a proven fact, asserting that the court will decide on these issues. He further claimed that the evidence presented against him is intended to undermine his reliability and influence his testimony.
The cross-examination also addressed a birthday card previously given by Father B. to a 14-year-old girl. While the witness confirmed remembering the card, the defense questioned the significance of the card and the circumstances surrounding its delivery in relation to the ongoing case.
