The Macedonian Orthodox Church commemorates Saint Christina of Tir, a 3rd‑century martyr. According to the hagiography, Christina was the daughter of the Roman official Urban, born in the city of Tir. At age eleven her father confined her in a high tower to hide her extraordinary beauty, but she converted to Christianity, destroyed the idols in her household and proclaimed her faith.
Her conversion provoked persecution by Urban and later by officials Dion and Julian. Christina endured torture, the loss of her tongue, and ultimately martyrdom, becoming a symbol of steadfast faith that led many in Tir to embrace Christianity. The saint’s story is celebrated today in the Orthodox liturgical calendar.
