Saint Cornelius the Centurion commemorated on Orthodox calendar

According to the Orthodox religious calendar, September 26 marks the commemoration of Saint Cornelius the Centurion. The day also serves as a pre-feast for the Exaltation of the Holy Cross.

Saint Cornelius was a Roman officer in Caesarea, Palestine, recognized as one of the first non-Jews to convert to Christianity. Following a vision, he was baptized by the Apostle Peter, a pivotal moment in the expansion of the faith beyond Jewish communities. After his conversion, Cornelius served as a bishop in Scythopolis, where he faced martyrdom for his beliefs.

Additionally, the Catholic calendar observes the feast day of Saints Cosmas and Damian, physician-saints who were martyred during the persecutions of Diocletian.
