Saint Cosmas of Aetolia celebrated in Nea Filadelfia and Sparta
The Orthodox Church celebrated the feast day of Saint Cosmas of Aetolia with religious services in several locations across Greece on August 24, 2026.
In Nea Filadelfia, a Panegyric Divine Liturgy was held at the Holy Church of ‘Agios ton Slavon’ by Metropolitan Gabriel of Nea Ionia, Filadelfia, Herakleion, and Chalkidona. The service was attended by local municipal officials and many faithful. During his sermon, the Metropolitan highlighted the Saint’s missionary work and his role in preserving spiritual identity.
In Sparta, celebrations took place at the Second Cemetery. Metropolitan Eustathios of Monemvasia and Sparta presided over a festive Vespers service and an artoklasia. This was followed by a procession of the Saint’s holy icon through the cemetery, accompanied by the Sparta Municipal Philharmonic. The event included prayers for the deceased and was attended by the Mayor of Sparta and local clergy.
