Saint Emilian commemorated in Macedonia on the Orthodox calendar

According to the Eastern Orthodox calendar, today marks the feast of Saint Emilian, a 4th‑century Christian martyr. He was born in the Roman town of Dorostol (now Silistra in Bulgaria) during the reign of Emperor Julian the Apostate, who sought to revive pagan worship across the empire. Emilian, a slave serving a city official, secretly adhered to Christianity, entered a pagan temple and destroyed its idols. Arrested by a royal envoy, he openly confessed his faith and, despite being sentenced to be burned alive, the flames did not consume him. He died peacefully and is venerated for his steadfast faith and bravery.

Macedonian media report that the saint’s feast is being observed today with religious services and public remembrance throughout the country, highlighting his example of courage in the face of persecution.
