Saint Euphrosyne: The life of an Orthodox saint

The life of Saint Euphrosyne, described as a ‘gem of Orthodoxy,’ is detailed through her journey from a wealthy upbringing in Alexandria to her dedication to monastic life. Born to pious and wealthy parents after long years of prayer, Euphrosyne was raised with a focus on virtue and devotion to Christ.

Following the death of her mother when she was 12, she was raised by her father, Paphnutios. At age 18, despite her father's intention to marry her, she sought the counsel of a spiritual elder to pursue a life of chastity. To avoid being found by her family and to fulfill her desire to become a monk, she chose to disguise herself as a man and enter a monastery.
