Saint Euplus feast day celebrated in Alexandroupoli

The feast day of Saint Euplus the Deacon, a Great Martyr, is observed on August 11. In Alexandroupoli, celebrations are held at the chapel in the port, which is a replica of the unique shrine in Aino.

Religious services in Alexandroupoli include a Panegyric Vespers and evening Divine Liturgy on Monday, August 10, followed by a memorial service for local ancestors. On Tuesday, August 11, a Panegyric Divine Liturgy will be held at the Saint Nicholas Metropolitan Church from 7:00 to 9:00 AM. During the festivities, the faithful can venerate the sacred relics of Saint Euplus kept at the Metropolitan Church.

Historically, Saint Euplus lived in the late 3rd century during the reign of Emperor Diocletian. Born in Catania, Sicily, he served as a deacon and was martyred for his refusal to renounce Christian faith after debating a provincial official.
