The feast day of Saint Fanourios is celebrated by the Orthodox Church on August 27. Saint Fanourios is a highly regarded figure in Greek folk tradition, often invoked by believers to help find lost objects or resolve difficult matters, a connection linked to his name which relates to the verb 'to reveal'.

A central tradition of this day is the preparation of 'fanouropita', a Lenten sweet cake made without eggs or dairy. Traditionally, the cake is prepared using an odd number of ingredients, such as 7 or 9, which hold symbolic significance in Orthodox tradition representing the mysteries of the church or the days of creation.

According to tradition, the cake is often brought to church to be blessed by a priest before being shared with family, friends, and neighbors. This practice is also tied to a tradition of praying for the soul of the Saint's mother. The veneration of Saint Fanourios originated in Rhodes, where his icon was discovered, before spreading to Crete and throughout Greece.
