Saint Faustina Kowalska commemorated on feast day
The Catholic Church observes the feast day of Saint Maria Faustina Kowalska, known as the Apostle of Divine Mercy. Born Helena Kowalska in Poland in 1905, she was a nun in the Congregation of the Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy who recorded her spiritual visions in her diary.
Her mystical experiences included a vision of Jesus with rays of red and white light, leading to the creation of the Divine Mercy image and the Divine Mercy Chaplet. These devotions were officially recognized and promoted by Pope John Paul II, who canonized her in 2000.
Commemorations of her life and legacy are held globally, including liturgical celebrations in Sisak, Croatia, and various observances in Poland and elsewhere, marking her impact on modern Catholic mysticism and the message of God's mercy.
