Saint-Gaudens bar manager dies following violent incident
José Capela, the 60-year-old manager of Café 50 in Saint-Gaudens, Haute-Garonne, has died following a violent incident during the night of October 24-25. Capela was found unconscious near his establishment between 2:00 and 3:00 AM. After receiving initial treatment at a local hospital, he was airlifted to the Purpan University Hospital in Toulouse in critical condition, where he subsequently succumbed to his injuries.
The Saint-Gaudens prosecutor, Christophe Amunzateguy, has opened an investigation into voluntary violence resulting in death without intention to kill. While some witness accounts suggest Capela was chased and beaten by a group of individuals, others indicate he may have stepped outside to calm intoxicated people near Place Napoléon and Place Jean-Jaurès.
Reports indicate that employees were locked inside the bar while individuals attempted to force entry. Investigators from the Saint-Gaudens police and the Toulouse judicial police are currently reviewing witness statements and examining potential video surveillance to determine whether the victim was struck or fell following a push. No suspects have been identified or arrested at this time.
