Orthodox Church commemorates Saint John and Neagoe Basarab

The Orthodox Church observes several significant religious commemorations on September 26. The calendar honors Saint John the Apostle, known as the ‘beloved disciple’ and author of the Gospel of John and the Book of Revelation.

Additionally, the day commemorates Saint Voivode Neagoe Basarab, who ruled Wallachia between 1512 and 1521. He is recognized for his diplomatic efforts, support of the Church, and for founding the Curtea de Argeș Monastery. He is also noted as the author of ‘The Teachings of Neagoe Basarab to his son Theodosie’.

In Moldova, religious observances include the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, marked by prayerful processions such as the ‘Way of the Cross and Repentance’ in the Sîngerei region.
