Saint Kalinik feast day observed by Serbian Orthodox Church
The Serbian Orthodox Church observes the feast day of Saint Kalinik on August 11. According to Christian tradition, Kalinik was a martyr from Cilicia (modern-day Turkey) who was persecuted in Ankara during the Roman era.
Tradition recounts that despite undergoing severe torture, Kalinik showed compassion toward his captors. During his journey to execution, he reportedly prayed for his thirsty guards, causing water to flow from a stone. He was eventually cast into a furnace, but legend states his body remained unharmed by the fire.
In folk tradition, Saint Kalinik is regarded as a protector against injustice, misfortune, and fire. Observances for this day typically include forgiving those who have caused harm, praying for protection against disasters, and assisting those in need.
