Saint-Louis celebrates 50th anniversary of Magal des 2 rakas

The city of Saint-Louis is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the ‘Magal des 2 rakas’, a major religious event for the Mouride community. Thousands of faithful from Senegal and the diaspora have gathered to commemorate a significant historical moment from September 5, 1895, when the founder of Mouridism, Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba, performed two units of prayer before colonial authorities to assert his spiritual submission to God.

This golden jubilee edition features a reorganized schedule to accommodate other religious observances. Key activities include ceremonies at Place Baya, Quranic teachings, and awards for meritorious students. The event also honors the memory of Mame Rawane Ngom de Mpal, a religious figure dedicated to Islamic transmission. The spiritual highlight is the traditional prayer led by Imam Serigne Mame Mor Mbacké ibn Seri.
