Senegal intensifies preparations for Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games
Senegal is intensifying preparations for the 2026 Youth Olympic Games (YOG) in Dakar, focusing on infrastructure, security, and community engagement. The Olympic flame has already begun its journey through regions like Diamniadio and Saint-Louis, where local festivals are being held to introduce youth to various aquatic and beach sports.
To ensure a lasting legacy, authorities are prioritizing the sustainable management of sports facilities. A certification training program, organized by CONFEJES and the Université Senghor, was launched in Dakar to equip officials with tools for maintaining safety, accessibility, and profitability of venues beyond the event. Experts suggest the Games could reshape Senegal’s model for public-private partnerships in sports funding.
Security measures are also being scaled up. The National Police is increasing its operational presence and conducting community outreach to ensure a safe environment. This effort is coordinated through the National Security Committee for the Youth Olympic Games (CNS-JOJ), which integrates police, gendarmerie, and emergency services to prepare for the event scheduled for late October 2026.
